The Momentum Shifts

You can almost feel it, the relief among Democrats when President Joe Biden dropped out of the Presidential race three weeks ago. Instead of offering up tired, old Joe who looks frail next to the frowning, negative, convicted felon, Former President Donald Trump and his sappy-side-kick J.D. Vance. There is now a major party Presidential candidate who is fresh, eager, smiling, laughing, optimistic..... Vice-President Kamala Harris

Trump recognizes the problem, he has even switched to correctly pronouncing her first name. Harris offers a completely different vision of America. She offers a vision much like John Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and Barak Obama offered...America is a damn good place to live and the future is bright.

Currently Harris is controlling the tempo and moves in this game of chess. After Trump and Biden agreed to a schedule and format of debates, Trump said earlier this week that he wanted the debates to be on the synchphantic Fox News with his schedule and format. Harris replied that no, she was going to show up for the ABC network debate scheduled for September 10. She stated that if Trump didn't want to show up... so what. Later Trump backed down... which he seldom does. He now wants to debate on ABC on September 10.

Governor Tim Walz is safe choice as the Vice-Presidential candidate. He has accomplished progressive programs in Minnesota and he served 24 years in the National Guard. As many others have stated, a great Vice-Presidential candidate can't win a Presidential election, but a bad choice sure can lose one. He sure looks like the nation's Grandfather.

Now Trump is saying that no one died in "great events" that happened on January 6, 2021. Yea, well, that stuff was an insurrection which was instigated by Trump to illegally change the election. Five people actually were killed that day. Trumps base of magabillies will continue to believe him, but those who are less than 100% committed to him... maybe not so much.

There are lots of undecided voters and voters who aren't completely decided. There is a lot that is still unsettled. The race is still early, but the Harris campaign (as does the Trump campaign) has lots of money to pour into advertising in the swing states. Let's hope that there can be some effective messaging, but it is good to see the momentum shift.
