I Must Be Out-of-Touch with America

Rhetorical Question - How can I be so out-of-touch with Mainstream America that I don't understand what's happening. Is it perhaps that living in my upper-middle class bubble in deep blue state Washington... I don't see what people in Georgia, Idaho, and Arizona see. Perhaps my coastal progressiveism has been left behind by America.

We do, however, have some major problems that the Biden administration and progressive politicians don't seem to address. Here is a few that I do see.

1. The vast majority of Americans, although they understand that the climate is changing, believe that the planet's climate is far beyond our human abilities to affect in any meaningful way. Banning natural gas, more electric cars, expanded bus transit and bicycle lanes are too expensive and inconvenient for today's motorists. Lets focus on new highways and streets to move cars most efficiently.

2. Lawlessness has become so rampant that more and more people feel the need to be able to take up arms against the lawless. They feel that more guns and more powerful guns are needed in the hands of upstanding citizens rather than fewer. Progressive politicians seem to be taking away from the police the ability to protect citizens

3. Enforce gun laws to keep firearms out of the hands of known criminals, drug users and the mentally ill.

4. There are too many non-documented aliens in this country and more and more are coming in every day. The policies of the Biden administration have made this worse. The flow of people claiming refugee status needs to be stopped and turned back at the border and illegal border crossers need to be arrested and sent back to Mexico.

5. Too much fentanyl and other drugs are crossing into our country. Every vehicle, truck, person, rail car, and shipping container needs to be searched. If this means the end of the North American Trade Agreement... so be it. This will also slow the other imports which seems to be the goal of Trump.

6. Too many resources are being spent trying to fix homelessness. Most homeless people are drug users or are mentally ill. Let's get the drug users into treatment or exile them to a drug camp (See my post from 5/4/2024). Get forced treatment for those whose mental illness problems create a hazard for our society. The competent and forced treatment will be expensive and society needs to pay for it.

There is no free ride. These things will cost serious money that will need to be paid for with higher taxes. Prices will rise on imported items as supply chains are choked at the borders and ports. If we want America to continue to be great... we must be willing to pay for this greatness. The Greatest Generation made America great because they were willing to pay for it (in lives and treasure). Politicians who tell us otherwise are liars... regardless of their party
