Since the election of Donald Trump, the war between Ukraine and Russia has been escallating. Ukraine wasn't allowed to launch American built ATACMS missiles nor British Storm Shadow missiles against targets in Russia. Russia was only using Russian troops and wasn't attacking Ukraine with ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
President-Elect Trump has declared that he will end the war in 48 hours.
Ukraine president Zelensky seems under the impression that this means that unless Russia withdraws troops from Ukrainian territory (eg. lands that the United States recognizes as part of Ukraine) the United States will unleash it's powerful weaponry against Russia.
Russian leader Putin seems under the impression that the United States is prepared to call the war a tie, stop providing aid to the Ukraine military, force Ukraine forces to withdraw from the Kursk region, and that the US will accept the Russian annexation of the parts of Ukraine currently occupied by Russian (and North Korean) troops.
Meanwhile, The war has escallated considerably.
Tens of thousands of North Korean troops have been brought to the battlefields. President Biden has allowed Ukraine to unleash weapons such as ATACMS against Russian territory; which it has done.
Spokesmen for the Russian government have said that by authorizing the launching of these offensive weapons into Russia the United States and the United Kingdom are now direct participants in the conflict. In retaliation, Putin has now launched ballistic missiles (capable of, but not, carrying nuclear warheads) into Ukraine.
IMHO, it seems that Russia is saying that they are now justified to attack American and British military targets. They seem to be giving themselves the "go ahead" to do so. Whether they do so, before January 20, remains to be seen.
This seems to be the call to go to Defcom 2. Which means that our forces are ready to deploy and engage in less than six hours. The Doomsday Clock should also be moved ahead to 60 seconds befoe midnight.
On January 20, comes the big test. Trump says he can end the war in 48 hours... perhaps through a stand-down or perhaps through an exchange of ICBMs.
