Trump's Campaign Promises

January 20 is coming up in just over a month. The reality is probably setting in with President-Elect Donald Trump and his advisors. A lot of promises were made to voters. How many will he keep? Will it make a difference to his staunch supporters? Will it make a difference to those who voted for him as the best candidate. Was he making these promises to his MAGA supporters or to all Americans?

These and many more questions are coming up.

First off he made several promises regarding Tariffs. He seems to believe that tariffs are paid by the exporting nation. He has promised higher tariffs on China, Mexico, and Canada. This will mean higher prices and shorter supply for all Americans on items imported from these countries including produce, energy, cars. Will he follow through on these or are those just bargaining ploys?

He has promised to end personal income tax liability for Social Security transfer payments. That will mean an increase in income for many Americans (including myself) and of course an increase in the federal deficit that he has promosed to eliminate.

He has promised to end the war between Russia and Ukraine in 48 hours. Good luck there, each side has different goals and are unlikely to back down. Trump can threaten to abandon Ukraine if Zelensky doesn't agree to what his buddy Putin wants. Following through with this threat would completely destroy relationships with Nato, Japan and Korea. I'm not sure what else he can do to force an end to the war

He has promised to arrest and deport all non-documented aliens. This one is the most out there. This pretty much will be impossible without ignoring Constitutionally required due process rights and using the military for civilian policing.

He has promised to declare a national emergency and depoly the military to close the Mexican border to those trying to cross into this country illegally. This is something that he could actually do.

He promised in 2016 to build the wall. He didn't during his first term. He probably should build it now. It is probably the one thing that he can actually accomplish of those that that he has promised.

All we can do now is accept that Trump is the President, and sit back an let him do what he will do.
