Hunkered Down in Bremerton

What's in a Name

One of the items in the news this week has been the debate about statehood for Washington DC. It's news now because of the expansion of the Black Lives Matter movement and protest. It has been an issue on-and-off for many years.

The communicated arguments for and against remain the same. They don't change but they don't matter. The issue is entirely political. The House of Representatives voted in favor because it would add two additional members to the Senate who would in all likelyhood be Democrats and African-American. The issue won't even be voted upon in the Senate because it would add two additional members to the Senate who would in all likelyhood be Democrats and African-American.

Additionally there is the issue of the name for the state. Washington is already taken and besides he owned slaves...can't use that. The District of Columbia couldn't be used because it would be a state not a district. Columbia couldn't be used because Columbus paved the way for genocide of Native Americans and besides they already have the Redskins.

So here is the compromise that everyone should be able to get behind. Lets name it Trump. The residents will get their statehood, the Democrats will get two more Senators. African-Americans will receive additional representation. And Trump, his supporters and his syncophants will be so excited that they won't remember why they were against it in the first place.

You scoff no doubt. But think about it, it could work. And the cherry-on-top is that they will be the Trump Redskins.
