Hunkered Down in Bremerton

Freedom of the Press

This week in a press briefing, according to the Washington Post, Soon Former President Trump was asked by S.V. Date of the HuffPost:

"Mr. President, after three and a half years, do you regret at all, all the lying you've done to the American people?"

Trump looked confused. "What?", he asked.

"All the lying. All the dishonesties", Date repeated.

"That who has done?", Trump asked.

"You have done", Date said.

Trump paused briefly, then called on another reporter without answering.

For someone who claims to be a "Very Stable Genius"... he doesn't have a clue. He doesn't even realize the difference between the truth and a lie. In his mind he always speaks the truth. He has never spoken a falsehood. Whatever he says is by definition the truth... after all he is the President.

Three and a half years and this is like the first time he has even been challenged on the truth.

As we approach the elections shouldn't the major news media outlets have a journalistic and moral obligation to point out the utter falseness of what he says. From this day forth, everytime he speaks to the press, everytime a tweet is reported in the media, he is speaking as candidate Trump. He is using the media for free campaign advertising under the guise of being the President.

Everytime he is not held to account for what he says, for what he tweets, we as Americans are the losers.

We used to have freedom of the press in this country. No longer. As long as CNN, MSNBC, CBS News, Disney-ABC News, the New York Times, The Washington Post, even Fox News and the other so-called establishment media do not challenge the President every time he utters a falsehood, they are not the Free Press as we used to know it. They are beholden to the President to create news. Whatever he says is the news and it is not to be challenged. IF WHAT HE SAYS IS NOT TO BE CHALLENGED, THE NEW YORK TIMES IS LITTLE DIFFERENT THAN TASS IN 1967. It was the obligation of TASS (The official news agency of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union) to report, without challenge, what the Premier and what the Politburo said.

The second amendment to the Constitution has the National Rifle Association rising to it's defense at every opportunity. Who speaks for the first amendment?
