Hunkered Down in Bremerton

Jeopardy - Dumbed Down

Newly produced episodes of Jeopardy premiered two weeks ago. Finally, and its great to see Alex Trebek looking healthy. What's up with Ken Jennings... lots of hoopla about him being part of the show, but almost no meat. I can also understand that the contestants are from Southern California-- ok there's a pandemic going on.

What I can't understand is why they have dumded down the answers. It is very noticable. I can usually question around 60% of the Jeopardy round correctly.. Now it is about 80%. In Double Jeopardy my rate was around 50% (except for the $2000 answers). Now I am correctly questioning about 75%, The $2000 answers are still very difficult.

In Final Jeopardy the dumbing down is even worse. I believe that I am correctly questioning at about 80% this season. One of the categories was Historically Notable Educators. Without hearing the answer I asked "Who is Maria Montessori". Of course that was correct.

Answers like these have always been way too easy (and way too frequent). Topic: Education ...Question: Who is Maria Montessori; Topic: Scottish Poets...Question: Who is Robert Burns: Topic: Norwegian Playwrights...Question: Who is Ibsen. These and a couple of others are answered (in some for or another) several times each season.. Now it is even worse.

The show is now way too easy. It is almost anoying. Perhaps most smart Californians were aware of the upcoming fire season along with Climate Change and have fled the state. It's not like these are Teachers Tournament contestants. I have watched Jeopardy since its discovery... and I tell you... I am really disappointed.
