Hunkered Down in Bremerton

Test Results

In may ways the November 3 elections will show us the results of our twelve score and four year test of the ability of a "nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all" people "are created equal" can endure. Many of the above words were spoken 157 years ago by Abraham Lincoln. His sentiments ring true today

The true measure of this test is that it will show whether our national experiment has created the smartest nation ever conceived or the dumbest. The choices in the election could not be more clear.

Donald Trump shows every day that he deserves to be ranked at the bottom of United States Presidents. He says that he is a very stable genius. He is neither. But not being a genius is often not a problem for US Presidents. Woodrow Wilson was a genius, but not a great president.

Trump's problem is that he has no belief in the experts who are in the government, choosing instead to surround himself with sychophantic "yes men". Instead of listening and reading what learned journalists in the leading news media publications and broadcasts have to say... He watches Fox and Friends and Sean Hannity. He doesn't read briefs from federal government intelligence, science and medical, or legal agencies. It's not that he dumb....he is stupid.

Forest Gump was dumb, but he wasn't stupid. He was sufficently self-aware to understand that "Stupid is as Stupid Does. Trump lacks this self-awareness. He is just stupid.

And yet Trump is President. He may be re-elected. But he will only be re-elected if there are sufficient voters who are dumb enough to believe what he says. If Trump is re-elected our 157 year experiment with democracy will appear to be on the brink of failure. Democracy can only succeed if intelligent voters elect intelligent officials. He does not deserve to be re-elected.

If Trump is re-elected we will show that as a society, as a nation we are not only dumb we are stupid. Fool me once, shame on you.... fool me twice shame on me.
