A year ago Fox News and it's subordinate group, The Republican Party, speculated that perhaps Covid-19 wasn't created in the wild through some evolutionary event (duh! they still don't understand evolution). The contend that the virus was created in a laboratory in Wuhan, China and then either accidentally or overtly released into the wild. They didn't say so but I guess they were infering that God made the Chinese do this. The Christian God of course-- there is no other true God.

This was widely dismissed by more progressive pundits, politicians, and people who consider themselves scientists. These folks said that it must have been transmitted by human contact with strange animals at the Wuhan public markets. Did it originate in pangolins or bats, or monkeys? This has been the accepted (by progressives) conventional wisdom for over a year.

Meanwhile the Chinese government more or less prevented a World Health Organization team of people who consider themselves scientists from doing a thorough job of determining the origin of the virus. They weren't allowed to even visit the Wuhan Institute of Virology. They reported, based upon what the Chinese authorities told them, that Covid-19 came from animals. They accepted the then conventional wisdom and the Chinese government without adequate investigation.

So now a year later the theory of lab origin has come up again as a possibility. There is no evidence that this is what happened, but no one can prove that this theory is incorrect. It also can't be proven (except to people who consider themselves scientists) that the virus wasn't first transmitted to humans from animals. It also can't be proven to have been introduced by alien spacecraft.

We don't know where it came from. Any evidence has has been either destroyed or so completely covered up that it will not be found for centuries.

Which brings us to what does it matter? Moving forward, what are we as a society going to do differently if we somehow convince ourselves that those dastardly Chinese created a virus that infected the world (including themselves)? Nothing.

Are we going to go to war to punish their evil government? No. Are we going to think of their government as being any more corrupt than we already do? No. Are we going to stop buying the crap that they make? No.

Resolving this issue one way or the other will change nothing about how we will move forward. Let's forget about it and just move forward and get everyone vaccinated.
