Hunkered Down in Bremerton

Hotels for the homeless

This week King County (Seattle and nearby cities) purchased the Holiday Inn Express in North Seattle as part of their program "Health Through Housing". The former hotel was purchased for 17.5 million dollars and will provide temporary housing for approximately 100 (mostly white) people. Wow!-- Do the math.. thats $175000 per hotel room. Think about that -- $175000 per hotel room. The King County Executive, Dow Constantine, was very proud of this purchase...He thinks it is money well spent.

Constantine must forget how much $175000 for a hotel room is to people who are marching for Black Lives Matter and who live in Skyway; to families who haven't been able to pay their rent in Seatac and are facing eviction. That's $175000 for a hotel room for someone who is probably mentally ill and a drug addict (and white) and is in need of mental health and drug treatment help which isn't being provided. That's $175000 for a hotel room which will be trashed or destroyed in three months.

Seattle is the only place where the homeless deserve 3-Star accomodations. Gosh, if I was homeless, I know which city I would hitchhike to.
