Hunkered Down in Bremerton

Omicron

The Omicron variant of Covid-19 dominates the news... with confusion. Every "expert" and news supplier seems to have a different story. One says it is resistant to vaccines. The next one says that you need The Booster to have sufficient resistance. One says that it is the dominant strain in the US already, the next says Delta still rules. One says this version of Covid-19 is less severe than Delta, the next one says it is more severe. What the hell is going on?

I'm not one to panic but I am truly concerned. I truly don't know what to do. I have stopped going to Rotary meetings because few members (and restaurant staff) wear masks. I want to keep my extended family and myself safe... But I also don't want to go back to April 2000.

For my two-cents-worth here is what I believe, four simple rules and this is unchanged from April 2000.

  • 1. Get all of the available doses of vaccines. This is the best protection that you can get for yourself and your family
  • 2. Maintain social distancing. This is to protect yourself.
  • 3. Stay away from indoor gatherings with strangers where people aren't wearing masks. This is to protect yourself
  • 4. Wear a mask in indoor settings with strangers present. This is to protect the community.

What it really boils down to is this:

  • 1. Action is more important and valuable than worring about the unknown.
  • 2. Protect yourself and your family at all times.
  • 3. Get the fucking vaccination and any available boosters.
  • 4. Love Your Family.

And one more thing. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
