Hunkered Down in Bremerton

Running a Little Late

I try to get this out every Saturday, but here it is Tuesday. We were in Oregon over the weekend visiting friends and relatives.

I get back to find that nothing has changed on the world scene except that the stock market tanked on Friday and Twitter has changed their mind about Elon Musk taking over (Did you think it wasn't about the money? - wrong). Once again, the new normal.

The new normal includes thousands of Russian troops in eastern Ukraine and missiles destroying civilian targets and killing people in major cities. The trick is to move punishments of Putin, his regime, and Russia right up to the brink of a nuclear war. Lavrov (the Russian Foreign Minister) makes some small threats but we all know that he is neither in control nor serious.

Russia will continue to step up their cyber attacks against the United States. Why do they still have access to the Internet? Unless we are attacking them harder across the Internet... block the damn routers. Why does the US developed and maintained GPS system still function in the skies above Russia? Why is the original Nord Stream pipeline between Russia and Germany still moving fuel to western Europe? Do we not have specialized and super-secret SeaWolf class submarines that are capable of taking any undersea pipeline out of service? Are we worried that Russia will escallate to nuclear war if we do.

Additionally, the lazy news media that I have written about earlier are carrying on with statistics that Covid-19 cases are on the rise in 20 (or is it 30) states and by as much as 10%. Yes, but don't panic. States that were averaging 200 cases per day in January had decreased to about 10 in early March. The number of cases is now at 11 per day. Thats a 10% increase but the actual number of new cases each week has decreased by over 90% since January. We are doing it correctly. If some people still want to wear masks, it is their right to do so. I don't except in crowded indoor situations (theaters).

Last night the lazy news media reported that scientists are looking to establish a "casual" relationship between the rapidly growing number of hepatitis cases among children (169 worldwide - statistically close to 0) and Covid-19. In addition to the absurdity of considering 169 cases in the world as being a problem I presume that any scientists involved in this already realize that the relationship is "casual" and they are trying to determine if the relationship is "causal". Similar words, different meanings...lazy journalism.
